Change Your TLB Profile Category

Purpose

Set or change your TLB Profile Category so competitor discovery and ranking reflect the correct business type. In TLB, the category is managed at the profile level (not from the ranking screen), and the search field filters location only.

Prerequisites

  • You completed onboarding (or you have a connected GBP).
  • You can open Profile and Business Setup in the app.

Steps

1) Check your current category

  • Open Profile in TLB.
  • Locate the Primary/TLB Category shown with your ranking context.

2) Change the TLB Profile Category

  • Go to Profile → Edit (or Business Setup, depending on your build).
  • Select the category that best represents your current main service.
  • Save the changes.

Note: Category switching is done at profile level so your results stay consistent and understandable.

3) If you use Google Business Profile (GBP), align categories

  • If a GBP location is connected, verify your primary category in Google Business Profile → Business Information → Categories.
  • Keep TLB and GBP categories logically aligned to avoid confusing results.

4) Refresh your ranking view

  • Return to Ranking and allow a short moment for the list to update.
  • Remember: the search bar filters geographic area, not category.

Troubleshooting

  • I typed a business type in the search bar and nothing changed.
    The search bar is a location filter, not a category selector. Change your category in Profile.
  • Competitors don’t match what I expect.
    Check your current TLB Profile Category and update it in Profile → Edit, then refresh.
  • Can I switch category from the ranking screen?
    No. Category is edited in your Profile to keep flows consistent.
  • I connected GBP and results look different.
    Verify your GBP primary category as well. Keep both (TLB and GBP) aligned.
  • Rows are blurred; I can’t act from the list.
    Free‑tier competitor rows can be blurred. To manage your own business, search/open your listing and use the action from its detail (Create / Claim / Open).

Notes

  • Two states to keep in mind:
    • Location Unknown (no GBP connected): ranking is anchored to your TLB Profile Category.
    • Location Known (GBP connected): additional flows become available; keep categories aligned.
  • Add clear entrance photos and accurate address in GBP to avoid location confusion in your ranking context.
